Throop Peak via Dawson Saddle

Hike Throop Peak via Dawson Saddle.

A relatively short distance of trekking will take you to the summit of Throop Peak, at elevation 9,138 feet. Throop Peak is located in the San Gabriel Mountains. The peak provides great views of the San Gabriel Mountains, the Mojave Desert, and the Los Angeles Basin. On a clear day, the views at the summit can go all the way to the ocean. There is a metal plaque at the summit, engraved with "THROOP PEAK (9,138) IN HONOR OF AMOS G. THROOP (1811-1894), FOUNDER OF THROOP UNIVERSITY IN 1891, NOW KNOWN AS THE CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY. MAY 13, 1992."
